When I opened up my email today…I was impressed. There—sitting quietly in my inbox— was a compelling image reminding me about earth day. Attached to the email was an kind invitation to remember earth day, visit their website, and join their mailing list. If you do, you get a free canvas bag.
This intrigued me…so of course I visited the site (me loves the free). Ted and Debbie were so smart…they put the mailing list link in the secondary navigation.
I wasn’t frustrated…but I did have to experience the entire site before finding it.
This is brilliant marketing.
I wish I’d thought of it.
Here’s why it rocks:
1) It’s different.
Our inbox’s are filled with spam and email marketing everyday. Most of it is loud, abnoxious and in a different language. This one was compelling, clean and to the point.
2) It’s meaningful.
Ted and Debbie are dedicated to the simple life (their blog authenticates this!)…so an earth day email is authentic to them and their brand.
3) It rewards you…four times.
Reward # 1
The photography in the email is great.
Reward # 2
It offers you something for your time.
Reward # 3
You learn about the photographers, their work and their clients without feeling like you’ve been hustled. I’d hire these guys in a second and I instantly feel like I can trust them with my most important clients.
This is a brand promise fulfilled.
Reward #4
When we get the bag in the mail…it will be as good as a follow-up phone call. We’ll remember Ted & Debbie all over again!
Seriously, I don’t even care if I ever get my canvas bag. I was so impressed with the experience.
Now that is a killer brand awareness / online marketing campaign.
I love smart people.
